About

Maria Saukhina

Maria Saukhina is a London-based interdisciplinary artist working across performance, moving image, photography, painting and material installation.

Her practice centres on the body as a carrier of experience and memory, and as an instrument through which internal states become visible. Suspended fabric is a recurring material in her work, functioning simultaneously as support, constraint and physical trace.

Drawing on her background in both fine art and psychology, Saukhina explores tension, vulnerability, dependence, resistance and transformation. She approaches the human figure not simply as a subject of representation, but as a site where emotional and existential questions take physical form.

Connecting live performance with studio-based processes, her work follows the passage from movement to image and from action to material residue. Across her practice, she returns to one question: what does the body know that language cannot express?
